About this tour

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, consisting of a circular arrangement of massive standing stones. Built in stages between 3000 and 2000 BCE, it remains an archaeological mystery, with debates over its construction methods and purpose. The stones, some transported from over 150 miles away, align with the summer and winter solstices, suggesting astronomical or ceremonial significance. Likely used as a burial site and a centre for rituals, Stonehenge reflects the ingenuity of Neolithic peoples. Its enduring mystique, cultural significance, and impressive engineering have made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of ancient human achievement.

Salisbury Cathedral, located in Wiltshire, England, is an iconic masterpiece of early English Gothic architecture. Completed in 1258, it boasts the tallest church spire in Britain, soaring 123 meters (404 feet). Its magnificent interior houses the world’s oldest working mechanical clock (1386) and one of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta (1215). The cathedral’s construction utilized innovative techniques, with its distinctive cloisters and chapter house showcasing intricate medieval craftsmanship. Set within an expansive close, Salisbury Cathedral is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of historical, cultural, and architectural significance in England’s heritage.

Winchester Cathedral, located in Hampshire, England, is one of Europe’s largest and most historically significant cathedrals. A masterpiece of Gothic and Norman architecture, it dates back to 1079 and reflects centuries of craftsmanship. The cathedral is renowned for its stunning vaulted ceilings, intricate stained glass, and the longest medieval nave in Europe. It houses the tomb of Jane Austen, and a 12th-century illuminated Bible. Key historical moments include royal burials and its role in the English Reformation. Surrounded by beautiful grounds, Winchester Cathedral remains a vibrant centre of worship, music, and heritage, attracting visitors from around the world.
